MNSure Health Insurance Exchange is part of the healthcare law that goes into effect on January 1, 2014. As a result of the Affordable Care Act, in 2014 every Minnesotan will be required to carry health insurance or be subject to a penalty. The MNSure Exchange will be a health care marketplace for individuals and families to shop for their health insurance. Yes, you will still be allowed to use a broker to assist you in comparing plans and purchasing insurance. As before the assistance you receive from your health insurance broker will be at no extra cost to you. The cost of the plans through MNSure are the same whether you use the assistance of a professional health insurance broker or not. At MN Health Insurance Network, we will be here to assist you in navigating the complex world of health insurance so you and your family can get the best health insurance plan at the best price.
Will you be forced to use the new MN Health insurance Exchange to buy your health insurance? No! No one will be forced to use the exchange to purchase health insurance and you can continue to use an insurance broker if you choose. However, for individuals and families with lower incomes and eligible for the tax credits (from 138 to 400% of the poverty level), the only way to take advantage of the tax credits is to use the exchange MNSure to purchase your health insurance coverage. Contact one or our health plan advisors today and we would be happy to assist you in determining whether purchasing a plan inside or outside of the MNSure exchange is the best option for you.
